Description
Game Fisher's Diary, the monthly video magazines for dedicated fly anglers, has teamed up with Iain Wilson of Borders Gunroom for this special offer of six superbly tied flies in conjunction with his 'Salmon Fly Of The Month' series.
Iain has lived by and fished the River Tweed for over 20 years and here he lets us into his fly box for his most trusted patterns...
The Eternal Optimist
A great spring fly to use early in the season when the river may be high and carrying a bit of colour; the yellow wing and mirage tinsel make the fly stand out in the coloured wate. Black and yellow is a favourite colour at this time of year and the green under the wing adds to its attraction.
The Cascade
The is one of the most successful modern flies with a proven track record. Ideally used in peaty or coloured water, where bright orange and yellow are clearly visible. This fly is suitable throughout the year and catches many salmon and sea trout.
The Bruiser
A great attractor of both salmon and sea trout. Its silver holographic body and slim profile make it best fished in low water and clear rivers; a great fly to fish in the evening too.
Silver Munro
The fly is best use when the grisle are in. It's a bright, flashy fly that is ideal for salmon, grilse and sea trout. Use when the water is falling after a summer flood and you know the fish are running.
Posh Tosh
This fly is suited to coloured and falling rivers. It's bright flashy body and fluorescent yellow wing glows in murky water and in peaty rivers; it's also very useful as a spring fly.
Chartreuse Flashy Willie Gunn
This is a typical 'back end' autumn fly with its mix of yellow, orange and black hair. Its flashy holographic chartreuse body adds a modern touch to an old favourite which has caught thousands of slamon over the years. Best fished in rivers with a tinge of colour.
